Stewardship Anecdote

A successful businessman and a well-respected member of a congregation was asked by his pastor to give an account of his success to the other members. He stood and gave a heart rending testimony of how he had given the first dollar he had ever earned to the church. He told how hard he had worked for that dollar, sweeping floors for the company which he now owned. He told how he had felt when long ago he had listened to a missionary speak to the congregation and ask for money to help the mission project. When the offering plate was passed, despite his poverty, this man had reached into his pocket, pulled out that dollar, and put it in the plate. "I guess that's why the Lord has blessed me so much," he said. "I gave my all." As he took his seat, still beaming from everyone's response to his words, a little old lady tapped him on the shoulder and said, "I dare you to do it again." —from the May 1983 issue of The King's Banner
