Rice University Religious Studies Professor Matthias Henze will present a one-day workshop January 25, on how to teach the Bible in Sunday Church School.
This program, sponsored jointly by the Adult Education Committee and the Melanchthon Institute, is intended for lay people. It is designed to meet the needs of those who have been reluctant to teach Bible classes because of their lack of formal training, as well as those who have experience but wish to sharpen their teaching skills. A moderate knowledge of the Bible is assumed.
The workshop will explore teaching strategies for presenting materials to older children, teenagers, and adults. Participants will be able to observe and practice the strategies using various sections from the Old and New Testament. In addition the class will review the vast array of materials on Bible studies.
Details about hours and regis-tration will be published in forthcoming issues of This Week.
Beginning in 2003 the Adult Catechesis classes will be held on Sunday mornings during the SCS hour. The first class will begin on January 19.
This class, based on Martin Luther's Small Catechism, is open to inquirers, those seeking membership, and members wishing to refresh their memory on the basic tenets of our faith.
