Peter Kopp, Guest Cantor for Spring, 2003

Peter Kopp, assistant director of the Dresdner Kreuzchor, Dresden's historic choir of boys and young men, and founder and director of the Körnerscher Sing-Verein Dresden, will arrive in Houston on January 1 to serve as guest conductor for the Bach Choir and Orchestra through the month of May. While he is here, he has agreed to serve as Guest Cantor of Christ the King Church, which means he will assume directorship of the church choir. Choir Director Carroll Shaddock will take a sabbatical during the spring.

Peter, who will work very closely with the Bach Choir and Orchestra Director, Dr. Robert Lynn, is an acclaimed conductor with an extensive background in period music. His ability to conduct performances reflecting the historical authenticity of classical music is well respected.

Accompanying Peter to Houston are his wife Anne (pronounced "Anna") and his two preschool children, Emelia and Dora. They will live in the upstairs unit of the Melanchthon House. The staff is currently accumulating furniture and household items to furnish the rooms. During their stay Peter and Anne will take instruction in English at Rice University.

Peter has been to Houston to conduct for the Bach Society on three occasions. He and his family look forward to this extensive visit and the opportunity to become involved in the life of the congregation.
