The conference Bonhoeffer Today: Peace, Ecology, and Christian Ethics brings renowned Bonhoeffer scholars to Houston. Guest speakers include:
Clifford Green: ELCA Pastor and Professor Emeritus of Theology, Hartford Seminary; Executive Director of Dietrich Bonhoeffer Works translation project (Augsburg-Fortress), founding president of International Bonhoeffer Society, English Language Section, and author of Bonhoeffer: A Theology of Sociality.
Barbara Green: Presbyterian Church (USA) Pastor and Executive Director, The Churches’ Center for Theology and Public Policy, Washington, DC, translator of Bonhoeffer’s Discipleship (formerly Cost of Discipleship) and former policy advocate for the Presbyterian Church (USA) in its Washington Office, specializing in international relations and security policy. She is the Melanchthon Institute Theologian-in-residence October-November.
Larry Rasmussen: Reinhold Niebuhr Professor of Social Ethics Emeritus, Union Theological Seminary and a Grawemeyer winner for Earth Community, Earth Ethics. Author of Dietrich Bonhoeffer: Reality and Resistance. He served as co-moderator of the Justice, Peace, Creation Unit of the World Council of Churches.
Brad Otto: Pastor at Covenant Lutheran Church, Houston and graduate of the Austin Lutheran Seminary Program of the Southwest. He has written and performed numerous one-act plays for churches and conferences. He has frequently participated in peace and justice forums and events.
Ann Gebuhr: Composer, Music Theorist, and member of Christ the King Church. She holds the Bachelor of Music in Piano Performance, Master and Doctor of Philosophy in Music Theory from Indiana University. Her music has been performed throughout the United States and in Europe. She is a MacDowell Colony Fellow and is the first woman to be awarded the Creative Artist Award in Composition by the Cultural Arts Council of Houston/Harris County. Bonhoeffer, her second opera, received its world premiere in Houston in May 2000.
