We are seeking candidates, both clergy and lay, and of any age, including youth. The purpose of the trip is to meet with the leadership and membership of the Lutheran Church of CAR to strengthen our companion synod relationship, to learn about causes of hunger and poverty in CAR, and the role of the church in addressing such problems. There are 2 to 3 places reserved for members of our synod. The Western and Eastern North Dakota Synods will also participate. If any synod does not fill its allotted places, there may be room for additional participants from another synod.
Cost: $3,925. A $1,500 subsidy is available from ELCA for one synod applicant willing to take on the role of hunger advocate. Our Global Mission team hopes to be able to raise funds for a small subsidy for our synod participants.
The initial application deadline and initial $400 deposit due date is October 2, 2006. TOM Witt, ELCA Global Mission, who will conduct the trip, will receive applications by mail, fax, or email. For more information, visit www.globalmissiongulfcoast.org. or contact Carolyn Jacobs
Note: If you are reading this after the deadline and are interested in going, please let Carolyn Jacobs know of your interest immediately.
