We Can Make a Difference in the Lives of People in the Central African Republic

Companion Synod: The Lutheran Church of the Central African Republic is one of the three companion synods of the Texas-Louisiana Gulf Coast Synod, along with Peru and Hungary. We are committed to walking together in our journeys of life and faith.

The Lutheran Church in C.A.R. has about 60,000 members, 41 pastors, 300 congregations, and a Bible School and Seminary. With few resources, the church struggles to minister to its people by providing educational and medical services that are not otherwise available.

A dream of ministry is being realized. The construction contract has been signed for a Women’s Center in Bouar, C.A.R. The center was long considered an impossible dream by Lutheran women in this poorest of African nations. Now, the project is under way. When completed, it will provide a place to teach literacy and skills for economic development, to start a banking and lending program, to train women in leadership, to operate a sponsorship program for the education of very young girls, and to provide a place for spiritual nourishment.

Your prayers and your contributions are needed. Tim and Janet Dray, architects from Minnesota, are volunteering a year of their lives to supervise construction. C.A.R. women are raising what they can, but most of the funding for the $170,000 project is coming from the ELCA Western North Dakota, Eastern North Dakota, and TX-LA Gulf Coast Synods. We Texas-Louisiana Lutherans need to raise at least $40,000. So far, we have sent $15,000. You can help bring the light of Christ to our sisters and brothers in C.A.R. by donating your gift through Christ the King Church and designate your offering for CAR Women’s Center.
