A letter from Bishop Mark S. Hanson, Presiding Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America
Mark 4:26-29
...The kingdom of God is as if someone would scatter seed on the ground, and would sleep and rise night and day, and the seed would sprout and grow, he does not know how. The earth produces of itself, first the stalk, then the head, then the full grain in the head. But when the grain is ripe, at once he goes in with his sickle, because the harvest has come.
Once a year I ask you to join me with a special gift to the Vision for Mission Fund, to scatter “seeds” and be part of the planting of the Good News in the hearts of people around the world. In the gospel parable, “if someone would scatter seed on the ground, and would sleep and rise night and day, and the seed would sprout and grow, he does not know how.” As followers of Christ we “go and tell” and “go and do” and trust that God will do the rest.
You are part of a church that is actively engaged in significant ministry
here in the United States and around the world. Leaders are being identified,
new congregations are being developed, we are reaching out to our global neighbors,
and so much more. Through your gifts you scatter seeds of hope. What a harvest
it will be!
Living in God’s amazing grace,
Mark S. Hanson
Presiding Bishop
