A recital by pianist Clive Swansbourne will open the series of Village Concerts 2006 at Christ the King Church on Thursday, May 4 at 7:30 p.m. The program features works by Haydn, Brahms, Chopin, Ravel, and Rachmaninoff.
Swansbourne was born and educated in England, studying at the Royal College of Music in London. Later he came to the United States where he studied at the Yale School of Music with Ward Davenny and Claude Frank, and received his doctorate there. He has toured widely throughout the United States, and has performed to critical acclaim in most of the big cities and almost all the states. He has also performed frequently in Europe (Great Britain, Germany, Belgium and Switzerland) as well as Canada. He has gained a reputation for his interpretations of standard repertoire as well as twentieth century music. Last Fall he performed the Beethoven piano sonata cycle to packed houses at the Rothko Chapel in Houston.
Village Concerts will continue on May 23 with Brazilian pianist Vania Pimintel; other recitals include the Croatian-born Houstonian Loreta Kovacic (June 22) and Tilmann Löser (July 14) from Leipzig.
There is no admission charge; a free-will offering will be accepted. Seating is limited to 100 persons, and visitors are encouraged to arrive early.
