Several events are in the planning stage for The Melanchthon Institute:
• Establishing a lay school of theology that would offer seminary quality courses (without academic credit) for laity who want to study for their own enrichment or to explore options for service in the church.
• A series of seminars on Personal Stewardship: Putting our Legal and Financial Affairs in Order that will address legal and financial details around end-of-life issues, establishing a legacy for loved ones, and managing personal resources. The seminars will bring together people with expertise in medicine, law, and finance to give participants a chance to review their situation and raise questions. Six seminars will be offered over the next two years. Watch for further details.
• In honor of the 100th anniversary of Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s birth, The Melanchthon Institute will help host a week long Symposium in October (date to be announced) on “Bonhoeffer Today: Peace, Ecology, and Christian Ethics.” The event will include a Vespers service, speakers familiar with the life and work of Bonhoeffer, and a performance of Dr. Ann Gebuhr’s opera “Bonhoeffer.”
