Dr. Sharon Ostwald
Christ the King Church member, Dr.
Sharon Ostwald is actively involved in the CAReS program (Committed to
Assisting with Recovery after Stroke). Stroke is the leading cause of disability
among older adults with approximately 750,000 individuals experiencing physical,
psychosocial, and cognitive disabilities each year. Over the last five years,
160 couples have participated in this National Institute of Health-funded intervention
study which has provided education, skill training, counseling, and social and
community linkages to stroke survivors and their spouses. This program not only
demands Sharon’s educational and professional expertise, but also calls
forth her ministry skills as a lay chaplain. Sharon is one of our congregation’s
commissioned lay chaplains through the Community of Hope program.
